Looking for a nature-based, half-day preschool? Twin Willows Preschool in Lake Norman provides a safe, nurturing community where children ages 2-5 build confidence, creativity, and independence through outdoor play, exploration, and hands-on learning guided by experienced teachers.

Mission Statement:

To provide a loving, caring, inclusive learning environment where every child is valued and heard. This is achieved by preparing children through outdoor and indoor experiences through play and hands-on learning while also nurturing their growth with a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the North Carolina Early Learning Standards.

Our five pillars of our mission are: outdoor education, literacy and language, math and science, the arts, and community involvement.

Tirion Sheafor, Founder, Twin Willows Preschool, Lake Norman, NC

Tirion Sheafor (Founder and 3/4 teacher)

Bachelor of Arts: Ohio Wesleyan University, 2016
Major: Early Childhood Education AND Spanish

Masters of Education: College of Charleston, 2018

Tirion Sheafor was raised in Cornelius, NC, just north of Charlotte. She then moved to Delaware, OH, where she participated on the Ohio Wesleyan University Varsity Swimming and Diving Team for four years and double majored in Spanish and Early Childhood Education. After completing her undergraduate degree, Tirion attended College of Charleston where she earned a Masters in Education of Languages. She lived in Charleston for 6 years teaching 2 and 3 year olds for 4 years before moving back to the Charlotte area. She taught in Davidson as a fours teacher for 4 years as well as one year in Huntersville. When Tirion is not teaching preschool she works for a 501c3, Swim Carolinas, whose home base is Huntersville. She is both a swim coach and swim lesson instructor. When she is not teaching, swimming, coaching, or exercising, you will find her reading, often outdoors. ANBE Level II Certification.

Megan Helton (2s teacher)

Bachelor of Science: Appalachian State University, 2024

Major: Recreation Management, Concentration in Outdoor Experiential Education

Master of Arts: Appalachian State University, Elementary Education (in progress)

Megan was born and raised in Boone, NC. Megan then attended Appalachian State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management and is currently working on her Masters in Elementary Education. In college, Megan participated in the Recreation Management Association and various outdoor clubs and activities. Megan has been spending her summers working at a wilderness camp in the Adirondack Mountains in New York the past 4 years, where she has led both hiking and canoeing trips. Megan also lived in Vermont for 8 months where she worked with preschool and kindergarten. When Megan is not teaching or in school, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, reading, and embroidery.

Allison Hargett (2s teacher)

Allison has called the Lake Norman area home for more than 30 years. She discovered her love for working with young children while serving as a kindergarten teacher assistant in Davidson for four years.

After adopting two of her three sons from Romania, Allison chose to become a full-time mom so she could focus on supporting their unique needs. Throughout the years, she remained actively involved in early childhood education by volunteering regularly in her sons' preschool and elementary classrooms.

Now, with two grown sons and her youngest in high school, Allison is excited to return to the classroom. She is grateful to be part of such a safe, nurturing environment and looks forward to sharing in the joy of watching children learn, grow, and discover the world around them each day.
